Description

This beautiful anaerobic coffee from Panama comes with the exciting announcement of another expansion to our ever growing lineup of offerings - the Limited Bag series. This new series of coffees is aimed to bridge-the-gap between our excellent, small lot, 100g jar offerings of the limited program, with the (still excellent) more traditional 340g bags that we use for our single origin coffees for service and retail in the shop. We’ve called back to one of our original bag illustrations, the wrapped bouquet from our pals 1924US but dialled it up to 11, using the copper foil to highlight the exclusivity, and limited nature of the coffees on offer within this program.

The first one up is an absolute beauty, and is is a caturra & catuai natural anaerobic lot from the Bambito estate! This is one of the lesser known but still outstanding producing families in Panama, and it's the first time we've bought from them. Alberto Sittón Rios acquired the farm from his father in 1945 in the mountains of Bambito, Chiriqui Province, Panama. The farm in Bambito was Alberto’s passion as it was his way to continue a family tradition, which nowadays continues to be a family business, in its fourth and fifth generation.

The farm is located between two national forest parks and crossed by two mountain ridges from east to west, creating two natural microclimates. These ridges protect the coffee trees from the summer north winds, and they have two water springs on the property, which are the main source of water for our mill. Beyond that, the property has it's own greenhouse and cupping room, where they use the greenhouse to preserve coffee tree genetics and maintain a young plantation. The coffee process byproducts (like coffee pulp / mucilage liquid) are reincorporated and used as a source of organic fertilizer for the cherries. The family maintains that they are committed to providing a healthy and social work environment, while remaining respectful of the land that allows us them to grow our outstanding coffee. They have incorporated the community into their Social Responsibility Program, and they provide breakfast during the school year to the nearby elementary school students, while organizing a Christmas gathering during the holidays where we provide food and gifts to the whole community.
