Description

Carlos is a member of the NGO FUDAM, which was founded by his wife, Raquel. FUDAM and the Lasso family have almost single handedly improved the coffee quality and hence, household incomes for many hundreds of smallholders across La Union and Buesaco. They have been instrumental in improving processing, picking, fermentation, drying and storage, and they have done so while maintaining an fundamental principle of gender equality. Raquel herself is a devout believer that economic independence for women within households reduces domestic violence, improves family incomes and child welfare, and leads to exponential growth within communities. FUDAM has seen that with women who control at least part of their family finances, levels of domestic violence decrease, children go to school more regularly, and families eat better and more often. We are very proud to buy coffee through this organization. Beyond the social impact, this coffee is exceptional, partially in part to the rich volcanic soils in Nariño which help characterize coffees' from this regions distinct profiles.

This coffee was sourced in partnership with Shared Source. We're super grateful to have been able to purchase this super small and limited lot, and we think it's a stunner!

Extraordinary Value

Carlos Alberto Belalcazar is the loving husband to friend of LVC, Raquel Lasso. This Gesha is a purely Panamanian seed brought to the Lasso's family run farm, and there are just 6000 geisha trees planted on their land. We're thrilled to have this coffee in our lineup and it is extremely limited, with only 100 jars of this coffee for release. Wonderfully floral and sweet, this coffee is an example of quality Colombian gesha that inspired LVC to pursue more limited offerings while still supporting small holder producers, and presents exceptional value for anyone looking to try Gesha or give it as a gift to the coffee lover in their life!
