Kenya Kiangoi AB
With a view of the now famous snow-capped Mt. Kenya, the Kiangoi coffee factory is situated with an almost tourist like view. Nestled into the Kirinyaga region, small scale farmers grow distinct and well organized lots, before processing them at the well managed central pulperies called coffee factories.
This coffee is processed using tradtional Kenyan methods of fermenting in tanks, but they use fresh river water only from the Kambuku river. The processing methods used in Kenya are a big reasons why their coffees are so unique to their country, taste wise. The coffee is de-pulped, the parchment is then fermented in concrete tanks, afterwhich it is washed and dried. It is then sun-dried for up to 14 days.
We purchased this coffee through an import agency that bought it on the Nairobi Coffee Exchange. This ensures that farmer receives the highest price for their coffee, as it is an auction style buying system, and that the buyer and producer retain full traceability.
