Notes of peach, hazelnut, lemongrass.
This is the first time we have purchased from the Kabare Farmer's Cooperative Society in the Kirinyaga district, nestled high on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. The coffee is grown in volcanic soil and processed with fresh river water at the Konyu factory, but has a delightfully different profile from most of the other kenyan coffees we've had on our offer list.
Kenyan coffees are some of our favourite offerings to feature because they provide customers with bold and balanced cups and a notoriously boozy profiles, with tons of blackberry, currant, and grapefruit notes. This is due to their "double-washed" processing method. This coffee however, finds much more stonefruit and spice, which is delicious and unconventional for the area.
This coffee was sourced in partnership with our friends at Trabocca, based in the Netherlands. Trabocca has developed lasting and valuable relationships in Kenya, and its neighbouring countries, to be able to consistently source and purchase some of the best lots from these countries. They do so using equitable buying practices, and publish the pricing paid for their lots to aide in creating continued transparency between the roaster and producers.
