Notes of golden pear, orange blossom, peach.
Our second El Salvador release that we sourced ourselves and is a direct relationship with a producer we visited in March of 2023. Andrew was fortunate to cup and select this lot directly while visiting Divisadero and staying with Mauricio. This coffee has tons of black tea qualities, and notes that would be comparable to a beautiful Ethiopian coffee.
Earlier this year, we decided it was one of our main goals of this year to expand our offer list to include countries we had never purchased from before. This led us to attend PRF El Salvador, where we met and stayed with Mauricio (Moe) Salaverria and purchased two of his lots - this being the second one. Moe's family are generational producers of specialty coffee in El Salvador since his father started separating cherry output in the 1970's and 1980's. Divisadero means to divide, and the vast views and panoramic views of the farm are truly spectacular. Moe's family purchased this lot from a relative in 2018 and immediately planted Icatu, which is a Brazilian varietal renowned for its resistance to roya (sometimes call coffee/leaf rust) and this lot is only 4 years old.
Another first for us, is purchasing a Icatu! Moe's family purchased this lot of land from a relative in 2018 and immediately planted Icatu, which is a Brazilian varietal renowned for its resistance to roya (sometimes call coffee/leaf rust). This lot is only 4 years old and has been expertly picked.
This coffee was imported on our behalf by Republica Coffee Importers, who have known Mauricio personally for years and their families are well connected. We're proud to have worked directly with Mauricio in purchasing this lot, after visiting his farm, and being able to taste and select this offering ourselves directly at origin in March of 2023.
